Southport Survey # 211
The morning was clear and still and very cold, the water was calm.
Off shore, hardly andy birds were about. The biggest group was 9 Red-
breasted Mergansers just paddling along the shore.

The past few days of cold froze up the ponds in the Golf Course and
the harbor except for by the bridge and the channel out to the Sound.
That was where the Hooded Mergansers were along with a fair number of
Canada Geese. There were no hunters at Southport Beach and more of
the Canada Geese and most of Mallards were there. The Gadwall were
in creek behind Southport Beach. Overall the day was cold and dull.

I took a quick stop to Beardsley Park. and the Pond was frozen from
the dam to the upper end of the inflow stream. Half the Mallards were
below the dam, at the upper end were the Black Ducks and more
Mallards. On the Ice were the Gulls and Geese.

Canada Goose	230
American Black Duck	103
Mallard	330
Ring-billed Gull	130/30
Herring Gull	20/2

Trap Falls Reservoir was totally frozen over.
