Southport Survey # 213

The water was calm and the sky clear. Off shore things were busy.
Lots of Goldeneyes were flying about. The Long-tailed Ducks were way
off shore towards Westport. The Red-breasted Mergansers continued
trolling the shore.

The Golf Course and the harbor continue to be frozen, but the harbor
less so. The Coot continues and the Great Blue Heron is back. The
general opening of the water seems to have caused the puddle ducks to
spread out and less counted. Most of the geese were on the sound as
opposed to being in the harbor. New birds were 2 Bonaparte’s Gulls at
Southport Beach along with what I presume to be the same Lesser Black-
backed Gull from Burying Hill Beach.
