In response to Julie Keefer's enquiry re Hooded Mergs nesting, they have
nested in the Wimisink marsh in northern Sherman the past two years at least
- in 2008 I saw a mother with 8 babies in tow, plus a young wood duck!
Last year I saw the female with only 2 or 3 young. There are very few
old/dead trees in the marsh and no boxes, so they and the wood ducks (of which
there are plenty) must be finding holes in the surrounding forest.
