Regarding Dennis's post this morning (1946 Long-billed Dowitcher Poverty Island (The Island beyond the tip of Griswold Pt.), there is no longer any island beyond the tip of Griswold Point. The nor'easter of 1992 (I think that was the year) breached Griswold Point and has led to a much smaller point which lies north of where it formerly was situated. The Great Island Marsh lies beyond Griswold Point now and it has developed a bit of a dune on its south facing side, the side facing LI Sound. Truly shifting sands.
