[CT Birds] White-rumped Sandpipers Milford Point

5/11/2010.  There was a nice influx of shorebirds at the Coastal Center at Milford Point today, including FOY White-rumped Sandpipers.  4 breeding plumaged birds were feeding with 225+ Dunlin on the mudflats in the marsh at low tide.  There were also 185 Semipalmated Plovers, 45 Least Sandpipers, 15 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 12 Greater Yellowlegs, and 8 Willets along with 5 Gadwall, more than 200 Brant (in the harbor), a female N. Harrier sitting in the Marsh, a flyby female Kestrel, and 3 Purple Martins in our box. Singing on the property were Wood Thrush (uncommon here), and a male Common Yellowthroat.  At nearby Silver Sands State Park there was a female Bobolink, 2 Savannah Sparrows and two singing Marsh Wrens..  Frank Gallo
