Hi Folks

The opportunity presented itself to do a survey in June

Fairfield, Sunken Island, Pine Creek Beach, Sasco Hill Beach,
Southport Harbor, Southport Beach.
9:00 to 10:30 Sunken Island exposed. and tide rising

There was a school of fish (Sp.?) inshore of Sunken Island which
attracted most of the Cormorants and Herring Gulls (not a tern in
sight). One Great Egret flew out to the island looking to get in on
the action. The Brant, Black Duck and most of the Mallard were at the
mouth of Sasco Creek. The Laughing Gull was on one of the mud flats
with 8 Great Black-backed Gulls.

Brant	6
American Black Duck	4
Mallard	32
Double-crested Cormorant	58
Great Egret	5
Snowy Egret	2
Black-crowned NIght-Heron	3
Laughing Gull	1 adult
Ring-billed Gull	11 (one year old) (the look like adults but with
worn primaries)
Herring Gull	94 (older than 2 years), 12 (one year old)
Great Black-backed Gull 11(older than 2 years), 1 (one year old)

Purple Martin	10	(small traditional house 5 pair on Beach Rd.)
Purple Martin	4	(2 pair in gourd houses on the bridge on Harbor Rd.)
They must have been recent arrivals because the birds were seen
gathering nesting material. For a moment I thought a bird was dead
inside with a wing hanging out the hole. Closer inspection revealed
it was a large Canada Goose Feather. The gourds were tethered to a
phone pole, not excessively high. It should make a good site for
