7/19 I took a quick walk out to check the bars at high tide just before the thunderstorm hit last night. Common tern numbers continue to build with 340 (up from 150 last week), including 75 birds of the year hanging around the bar. There was one individual that was either a second summer bird, or a breeder that molted early, with a white forehead and black bill. There were also 59 Laughing Gulls most without hoods, 3 Sanderling in alternate plumage, and 250 Semipalmated Sandpipers. The young American Oystercatcher is doing well, and 4 adults were in the area. All four baby osprey made it through the storm, although they all looked like drowned rats. They started flying at the end of last week! Frank Gallo
