Southport Survey # 234 This is the fourth survey of the season.

The tide was in the mid range and rising. Off shore Cormorants were
flying west. along with a few Mallards. The Great Blue Herons flew in
off the Sound together. The Sanderling were just wandering about on
Pine Creek Beach. The other shorebirds formed a little flock on the
lawn at the golf course.

There were about 200 Swallows about. Half the birds were Barn Swallow
The rest were mostly immature Tree Swallows, some Northern Rough-
winged Swallow and a few Bank Swallows to be sure. Although there
were a couple of Purple Martins nesting at the bridge over Southport
Harbor, seeing 16 together at one time was a surprise.
