[CT Birds] 9/8/2010 Hammonassett -- WHITE-RUMPED & WESTERN SANDPIPER, FORSTER'S TERN

It was a nice morning at Hammonasett despite threatening skies.   Except 
for Tree Swallows and Double-crested Cormorants, there were not large  numbers 
of birds but nice variety, especially with the shorebirds at the end of  
the Moraine Trail.  Another highlight was amazingly close views of a  hunting 
Cooper's Hawk.  Here is the list of birds seen today!

Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least  Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, 
Laughing Gull, Ring-billed Gull, Herring  Gull, Common Tern, Tree Swallow, Bank 
Swallow, Barn Swallow, Gray Catbird,  Northern Mockingbird, European 
Starling, Song Sparrow
 
Madison, Horse Pond -- 10 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 1 LITTLE  
BLUE HERON (juv.)
Also: Great Blue Heron, Barn Swallow, lots of  dragonflies!
