Not to speak for Dave, but he has pointed out that Cape May Warblers are less hesitant to fly over water.  They will often do their morning flight over Poquanuck Cove and therefor less likely to come out of Bluff Point over the hot corner.  Most other birds are funneled to the hot corner because of their reluctance to go over the cove.
