Despite great NW winds the broad-winged (BW) hawk count at the Chestnut Hill
(Litchfield, CT) hawk watch was disappointing on Friday (17 Sept). Just 87 BW's
tallied for the day. Noted that at Johnnie Cake Mountain in Burlington, more or
less east of Chestnut Hill, had over 500 BW's while the Middle School in
Torrington had 127 BW's. Will be curious to see what Botsford Hill and Quaker
Ridge had on Friday. The observer coverage was just one person had Chestnut Hill
until about 1:30 PM. Clouds did not clear until after 12 Noon at Chestnut Hill.
Most BW's were not in kettle mode, just getting lift off the ridge at Chestnut
Hill and moving rapidly on to the southwest.

I think the last hope for BW's movement for Chestnut Hill will be after a cold
front late on Sunday (19 Sept). Weather conditions look better for BW's on
Monday (20 Sept). The weather pattern this weekend (18 and 19 Sept) is not great
but perhaps there will be some thermals.
