There were at least 4 or 5 Nelson's Sparrows in the spartina alterniflora
on the LIS side of Milford Point this morning at about 11:30 AM. They were
in with at least 1 Seaside Sparrow and 1 Saltmarsh Sparrow. The patch of
spartina which is to the left after you step off the boardwalk and up in the
corner where the Piping Plover nesting bar meets the mainland is where I
saw them.
There were also 2 Horned Larks out on the plover nesting bar. Also
present was 1 American Golden Plover among the Black-bellied Plovers and 4 Red
Knot. A few Common Terns were plunge diving among a flock of gulls about 150
yards offshore. Two Peregrine Falcon fly-bys scattered the shorebirds.
