9/24 - New Haven, Lighthouse Point Park Hawkwatch - 51 diurnal raptors
counted: 12 Osprey, 3 Northern Harriers, 9 Sharpies, 5 Coops, 12 American
Kestrels, 7 Merlins, and 3 Peregrine falcons. Not bad for light south winds
with heavy clouds and fog which lifted only around 2 p.m. The falcons
reigned, putting on quite a show. All three kinds were in the park at one
point, and interacting. A Merlin dove on a Peregrine, and the Kestrel just
tried to keep out of the way. Many of the birds landed in the park, giving
great views. And then there was that great Red-headed Woodpecker reported
before! Thanks to Don Morgan, Lynn James, Dan Barvir, Sulemaan Khan, Flo
McBride, and several guests John Sterpka, Jay White, Tony Villagio, Steve
and Charla Spector, and Elaine.

Oh, if you're a bird, be an early bird
And catch the worm for your breakfast plate.
If you're a bird, be an early early bird--
But if you're a worm, sleep late. *Early Bird* by Shel
