With numerous Franklin's Gulls displaced into the Great Lakes, two birds on Long
Island flag the potential that it is worth actively checking gull concentrations
along the shore during the next few days.

This is a very difficult bird to catch up with in CT, actually a very rare
vagrant to the state, so any reports will be well accepted by the CT birding
community (eg. me!!)
The obvious pitfall are those Laughing Gulls that have more extensively dark
head patterns than most, but note the extent of black extending below the eyes
on Franklin's, more swollen eyelids, shorter-bill, well-defined white primary
mirrors and a smaller, more demure look compare to Laughers.

Good hunting!
