The LeConte's Sparrow first found this morning by Tom reappeared near high tide, a bit after 3 p.m., and was seen until about 4 p.m., when the tide forced it into the dunes. It's still in the area and may be visible tomorrow morning. Please, please, do not walk in the dunes or marsh grass to look for the bird, it will kill the grass, and we lose enough beach to the winter storms as it is. Check the matted spartina grass along the edge near high tide, which should be around 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow... The bird is in the area on the inner arm of the spit off Francis St. It's best reached by walking out the main trail to the Long Island Sound Platform, then heading left towards the bar along the beach. The bird is in the marsh grass on the right before the bend. Frank Gallo
