[CT Birds] 7/18 - CT coast (Royal Tern, Pec Sand)

I birded today from 0715 to 1545 along the coast, and then a brief
visit to Hanover Pond in Meriden later in the afternoon. 13 shorebird
species and 4 tern species seen.

There was a fair amount of visible shorebird migration going on, with
small flocks of peep moving down the coast (east to west). There was
also a very good showing of Lesser Yellowlegs, and building numbers of
SESA. Below are some highlights and numbers:

Old Lyme, Watch Rock - 2 Green-winged Teal, 14 Lesser Yellowlegs, 25
Semipalmated Sandpipers
Old Lyme, Griswold Pt - 2 Hooded Mergansers (flyby), Little Blue Heron
(adult), ROYAL TERN, several fledged Least Terns
West Haven, Sandy Pt - flyby PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 25 Lesser Yellowlegs
(pure flock that spent a short time in the marsh before continuing
down the coast), 110 Semipalmated Sandpipers, a few fledged Least
Terns and several chicks
Milford, Milford Pt - 220 Semipalmated Sandpipers, one bright
Sanderling among them
Stratford, Access Rd pool - juv Glossy Ibis
Stratford, Stratford Pt - 5 Sanderling (flyby), Forster's Tern,
Bobolink....a few hundred terns at the mouth of the river today

No Roseate Terns seen today.
