Hi Tom,
Thank you for your excellent posting, summarizing much info on this mega-rarity
via the collection of web-links you provided. I'm glad to have made a
successful trek, with Ed Hagen, Tuesday to see this gull.
And thanks belatedly for the similar tracking of Lapwing reports last
fall/winter.

Best,
Frank Mantlik

Subject: [CT Birds] Gray-hooded Gull: range map and today's update

For anybody considering a trip to New York City to find the Gray-hooded Gull
(aka Grey-headed Gull) here is another good site you might want to
review....
http://anythinglarus.blogspot.com/2011/08/coney-island-gray-hooded-gull.html

and it includes an excellent (and slightly out of date!) range map....
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eW3Y2u9wyUU/Tjf6VwHYQEI/AAAAAAAAI4E/DaJYTxyxIa8/s800/scan0001.jpg

which has been incorporated into Keith Mueller's updated post....

SOMETHING ELSE TO CONSIDER....
The Gray-hooded Gull has NOT been seen yet today Thursday Aug 4th as of
2:30pm, according to Lloyd Spitalnik of NYC. So, before you go, you might
want to check the latest posts on....

And if you do decide to drive into Coney Island, here is a time, route and
parking lot that worked well for us...

Meanwhile, Marshall Iliff's eBird posting today is another good one to
read...
