Subject: Birders desperately needed for upcoming Giant Bioblitz

I am hoping you can help us. We of the Sleeping Giant Park Association (see www.sgpa.org<http://www.sgpa.org>) are trying to assess the biodiversity of the Sleeping Giant State Park. To this end, we have carried out "bioblitzes" over the past two years (one in April of 2009, the second in June of 2010). The third is coming up, this coming Sunday, September 18. We will be trying to identify as many species of plants, animals (both vertebrates and invertebrates), and fungi as possible. We do not yet have any ornithologists or other birders who could help us with the avian department.

Would you be willing to forward the following announcement to the members of the Connecticut Audubon Society? Could you announce it at the annual meeting tomorrow? Here is the announcement:

Greetings, nature lovers! This is to confirm that the third annual Giant Bioblitz will take place on Sunday, September 18th , from 10 AM to 10 PM in at the Sleeping Giant State Park. During that period of time, we hope to find, identify, and record as many macroscopic species as we can - herbivorous and woody plants, fungi, and vertebrate and invertebrate animals in the Park.

As was the case in our first two bioblitzes (April of 2009 and June of 2010), we will have a "home base" at the Ranger Station", just beyond and to the left of the Park entrance. There we will have reference identification books on hand to peruse, laptops for data entry, trail snacks, and water for participants. Please check the list of recipients for this email message, and forward it to any individuals you know with expertise and interest in participating in such an endeavor, as well as organizations in the area whose members would be likely to wish join us on September 18th.

Come for the whole day of fun, or as much of the day that you are free and able to join us!

I am trying to compile a data base of participants. If you are planning to take part in the 2011 Giant Bioblitz but have not given me your contact information, please take a moment to do so now. Simply fill out the following information and hit "reply":

     Email address __________________________
     Cell phone ___________________________
Relevant area/s of interest and/or expertise (if any) in natural history (or are you a generalist?): ______________________________________________________________________________________
Interest: Count on me on September 18 ____ Cannot make it ______ Maybe _____ Need more information (specify what you would like to know): _____________________________________________________________

Looking forward to getting out there on the Giant with you on September 18th,
