Southport Survey # 271
18 Sep 2011
Now that the hurricane hick-up is over, it is back to work.
The tide was falling, at the start only the highest rock exposed. The
water was calm and the sky clear.
Off shore there were a few Laughing Gulls and the terns. This is one
of the latest dates for the Common Tern and the earliest date for the
Forster’s Tern. Otherwise the sound was bare of ducks. Most of the
Sanderling were at the Pine Creek Beach, likely waiting for the
island to be exposed.
Southport Harbor contained the Semipalm Sands. and the other shore
birds. The area also had the few Mallards and the Great Blue Heron.
At Southport Beach. the egrets were scattered about in the new tidal
pools. Overall, except for the shorebirds it was just another data-set.
