Though John Marshall sent a posting on our behalf with the "best" of the birds Tuesday evening, here's the complete list. Note that the Boardwalk is still impassable on the northeast side, coming in from S. Lake St., and the south end by Sutton's Bridge was flooded this morning. The best approach is to come in from White's Woods Rd., and take a left onto the main trail after passing through the boulders. All of the pond can be viewed from the northwest side of the Boardwalk.
Protocol: Traveling; 1.0 mile

Killdeer 1
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER 1 This bird was first seen well with a spotting scope zoomed up to 60x and determined to be a dowitcher by appearance and feeding like a sewing machine behavior on the mud bar. When something spooked it and a group of ducks they all took flight and this bird uttered several single distinctive "keek" call notes, each spaced about 10 seconds apart, as it flew right past us. It was also more uniformly gray-brown and unpatterned than any Short-billed Dowitcher that I've seen.

White-throated Sparrow 24

Red-winged Blackbird 1
Rusty Blackbird 1 This is an early fall migrant that is close to be on schedule. It was seen flying over, giving its distinctive squeeky "ereek" and "chup" calls.

House Finch 2
American Goldfinch 2
