Southport Survey # 274
2 Oct 2011

The tide was falling, the rocks of Sunken Island were exposed. The
water was with white caps. The sky was cloudy, strong wind out of the

Off shore there were a few Laughing Gulls in flight and a some
Cormorants feeding.

Most of the Mallards were in the ponds at the golf course. Otherwise
there was little else. In Southport Harbor the flats were exposed and
had the shorebirds on them. Just as I was trying to get a good count
on the Semipalms a Merlin flew through and flushed them all.

At Southport Beach. the egrets were again scattered about but fewer.
Most of the Laughing Gulls were resting on the flats of Sasco Creek.
Most of the beach was occupied by people, particularly children.
