There continues to be a large number of European Starlings which have a
night roost in the phragmites beds behind the Sikorsky plant on the
Housatonic River in Stratford, just north of the Merritt Parkway/Wilbur
Cross Parkway bridge over the river. I would guesstimate that the number of
starlings is about 5000 and 80% of them approach the roost site in 1 long,
streaming mass from somewhere to the west of the river. Tonight they arrived
at 5:44 PM. There had been a decent sized Common Grackle roost too, which
was probably about 1000 birds strong, but that group has dwindled down over
the last few weeks.
