Southport Survey # 280
14 Nov 2011

The tide was low with Sunken Island well exposed. There was a strong
NW wing causing white caps on the water.

Off shore all the activity was around the Sunken Island. Off the
south side of the island was the flock of scoters and Red-breasted
Mergansers. Except for one White-winged Scoter, all the scoters were
of the female/immature form. The Forster’s Tern flew overhead. The
loons were widely scattered.

The ponds in the golf course were empty except for a pair of swans
and a few Mallards. In Southport Harbor the Black-bellied Plovers
were on the mud flats, and most of the Hooded Mergansers were there.

At Southport Beach the Black Ducks were feeding at the mouth of Sasco
Creek. The Great Cormorant continues on the leaning tower.
