12/10/11 Penfield Reef, Fairfield - drake Harlequin Duck continues with Common Goldeneye. Flock flew off due to hunters. It probably is still in the area.

Subject: [CT Birds] HARLEQUIN DUCK Penfield Reef

There is a drake Harlequin Duck at the reef right now, among the goldeneyes and scoters, usually near the goldeneyes. For anyone who might try tomorrow, I will note that the morning is not the time to come, seeing as the sun is in your face and the lighting will be terrible (unless its cloudy). The later in the day the better, now (3 - 4:30is) provides the best lighting to scan. The reef can be accessed from an entrance (small paved road not big enough for a car) called  Lighthouse Point which is on Fairfield Beach Road at the end of Reef Road in Fairfield.
