From Steve Broker (Cheshire):
12/10/11 - East Haven, Ora Avenue/Proto Drive/Tweed-New Haven Airport
(8:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.) -- 17 birders observed YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT,
today seen inside the chain fence that "blocks" the far end of Ora.
The chat was observed well on two occasions several hundred yards
past the fence and on the airport runway side of the road. Also
observed this morning: Peregrine Falcon and a good assortment of
other species. No Marsh Wren seen today.
As we approach the start of the New Haven CBC count period, a check
of Branford's Furnace Pond (south end of Lake Saltonstall) after the
walk turned up four Green-winged Teal, four Hooded Mergansers, and
two American Coot, all on the innermost portion of the pond. Best
viewing is from inside the guard rail (!!) directly across the street
from Big Brothers and Big Sisters Donation Center.
