[CT Birds] Duped Red-tailed Hawk

This afternoon at work, a Red-tailed Hawk surprised attacked a flock of
pigeons on a nearby apartment building, catching one and landing on our
fence. The Red-tail sat there for about three minutes contemplating where
to go with its hanging, lifeless prey. But as soon as the hawk released its
grip a bit, the pigeon slipped out of its talons and flew off with the
others. Through my binoculars, the hanging pigeon looked totally dead. What
an acting job and what an escape! The look on the hawk's face was
Across town, a small unidentified bird had fared less well, being eaten by
a Merlin on top of the Connecticut Covention Center.
