1/4 MIlford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center
19F, mid tide receding; much of marsh is frozen .
On the grounds were mourning doves, house sparrows, cardinals, song
sparrows, white throated sparrows and a pair of house finches.
Seen from windows facing marsh:
2 separate flocks of "peeps" flying through marsh-about 60+ in each
flock. Then around 11:15AM the flocks landed as the tide was receding and
they were feeding and bathing with many Ring billed gulls. They appeared
to be mostly sanderlings-about 200+
Very frenetic feeding as their heads & bills poked the mud and they
scrambled through the marsh.
1 Great black backed gull, 15 Buffleheads, 2 Northern harriers scoping the
marsh; one harrier passed so close to the windows that I had beautiful
close up views, 6 Black ducks, 1 D.C. Cormorant fly by.
