[CT Birds] Black Vultures in Cheshire

Black vultures are consistently found at Earthplace in Westport, CT. They
hang out by the bird cages looking for hand-outs. I was there last week and
counted about a dozen or so. Lots of turkey vultures too.

There must now be dozens of pairs breeding in CT as a minimum. I see
multiple individuals regularly in various locations, and they are
behaviorally less obvious than TVs (which of course makes locating nest
sites a tad tougher as well). I've seen well over a dozen at the Norwich
roost and Bob Askins has reported as many as 50+ BVs at the Smith Cove roost
on the Thames for a few years now.

01/23/12 - Cheshire -- 4 BLACK VULTURES leaving the Dragon Buffet Restaurant
and crossing Route 10 to Radio Shack's roof, 2:30 P.M.. I know of only two
breeding records for Black Vulture in Connecticut. Efforts should be made
to document further nesting of this rapidly expanded species in the state,
in caves, rock recesses, talus slopes, barns, etc..
