From Steve Broker (Cheshire):
02/13/2012 - Woodbridge, Konold's Pond, from Warren Road -- 2 TRUMPETER SWANS continue (3:00 - 3:15 P.M.), mostly resting 100 yards north of the Warren Road overlook of the pond.
Birds of North America Online has comprehensive information on this species, including: (1) the annual cycle (migration from the last 10 days of February to the end of April, but gaining momentum in mid-March); (2) breeding ("most U.S. flocks are generally sedentary or move only short distances") & (breeds locally south from Alaska and NW Territories to New York, Ohio, Indiana, etc.); (3) recent introductions (restoration efforts are occurring in Ohio, MIchigan, etc.); (4) population (because of increasing range expansion - [due to restoration projects and increasing population size] - Trumpeter Swans may be seen wintering almost anywhere in the continental United States); "an unknown number are pioneering southward where they are beginning to establish use of more southerly wintering areas".
