3/14 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center 10AM-1PM
sunny, 63-65F, low tide.
On the grounds most of the birds were singing that spring is here (it was
Red winged blackbirds, common grackles, cardinals, mourning doves, robins,
house finches, house sparrows (passing a feather between the male and
female), song sparrows, American crows and a pair of boisterous
On the marsh were 150+ Green winged teals spread out through the marsh, 12
RB mergansers, 2 pairs of Gadwalls, mallards, Black ducks, 7 mute swans, 2
14 Buffleheads, ring billed and herring gulls. A visiting couple
mentioned that they saw 3 American Oystercatchers (2M,1F) on the beach and
that the Piping Plovers were back on the Long Island sound side.
There was one large butterfly perched on the deck railing which had a deep
brown color on the underside of its wings with a white edge on the wings.
