This bird has been seen repeatedly by numerous observers since at least last fall. Of interest is that another leucistic red-tailed hawk, with a very little bit of brown here and there, was observed on and off for several years not too far south of this area near the intersection of Southeast Road and Route 20 also in New Hartford. It is probable these are two different birds, although it may be that the Steele Road bird moulted some of the earlier brown patches. Photographs do exist of both birds and could be compared for similarities and differences. Or, maybe related birds?

Subject: [CT Birds] White Red-tail

For Jonathan Craig:
4/8 - New Hartford - Steele Road - a leucistic (all white with some red on
the tail) Red-tailed Hawk, possibly female, seen 4-5 times since January at
this location and most recently on 4/8.
