Just finished the book "Bird Sense" by Tim Birkhead. Angela Dimmit just mentioned in her post that the New York Times discussed it in the Science Section

The book explores differing senses in birds - vision, taste, smell, hearing, mapping, even "emotion". He does an excellent job reviewing the literature, even works going back to the Greeks. He provides interesting evidence-based findings as well as anecdotal evidence and clearly distinguishes between the two. As a "non-professional" birder, I found it a very interesting. Nothing in it was stop-you-dead-in-your-tracks new, but the overview, how the science has progressed, and general findings were well written and even entertaining at times. So if you're looking for some good summer reading, you might consider this.
