7/4/12 - East Hartford, Rentschler Field by Cabela's - 1 UPLAND SANDPIPER, 1 female AMERICAN KESTREL, 1 VESPER SPARROW, 3 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS and at least 5 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS. The Vesper Sparrow was seen with several Savannah Sparrows and was located just beyond the fence, looking into the field where the Upland Sandpipers breed. I was surprised to see it this time of year.

East Hartford, Hockanum River Linear Park Trail - 9 Least Sandpipers and 3 Semipalmated Sandpipers feeding on mudflats by the river. This area is worth watching as shorebird migration picks up in the next several weeks. Also saw a Great Crested Flycatcher nab a large dragonfly, which offered some strong resistance. It finally succumbed after the flycatcher whacked it several times against a couple of branches. Quite a large meal for the Flycatcher!
