[CT Birds] lost banded Pigeon

Jan - in regards to your banded Pigeon.
This bird is most likely a domestic homing pigeon. Their are many racing pigeon 
fanciers here in CT, and they fly races this time of year very often, usually on 
weekends. With some late races released as far as or around 500 miles, many of 
these racing Pigeons regularly get lost, or are to exhausted to continue home.
Unfortunately, a bird that gets lost or puts down before completion of race, is 
then classified as not a potential winning bird. It then is often the case, this 
bird will not be wanted back by its owner. 

However: If you can feed it for a few days,(grains, corn) and let it get it's 
energy back, it will usually take flight and make it back to its home.
I know some who can track it to its owner from the band if you like, but if they 
want to keep it, that might be a better choice.
