8/19 New Milford - Just after dark last night, my cat suddenly saw
something on the patio so I turned on the light. At first glance it looked like a
hummingbird hovering, flitting and feeding on nicotiana flowers - it was
probably a Pandora Sphinx moth, brown with strong wing patterns, which feeds
at dusk and later. With a wingspan of 110-115 mm, it is about the size of
the ruby-throat. Pretty exciting!
