Sorry for another change for this event, delays in travel back from Jamestown, NY mean the event will start at 5 PM not 3 PM:
A Celebration of Roger Tory Peterson at McKinney NWR in Westbrook, CT on, 5 PM Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012

With the upcoming auction of Roger Tory Peterson's originals coming up Sept. 8th, The Friends of Roger Tory Peterson are trying to raise awareness about [the sale in preparation for a fundraising campaign launch OR this critical - and limited - opportunity to keep major portions of Peterson's artwork available to the public.]

The Friends of Roger Tory Peterson is holding a FREE event at the McKinney NWR's Headquarters (Salt Meadow Unit) Westbrook, CT 733 Old Clinton Road, Westbrook, CT 06498, on Sept. 2, 2012. (today, Sunday)

Guests can come and go as they please all day, but starting at 5pm the doors to the HQ will open and guests will be able to see life-sized facsimiles of Roger's art (possibly an original). The day's activities will wrap up by 10pm.

Guests will also be able to explore the approximately 2 miles of trails that wind through grassland, forest, and marsh habitats. People should bring their own food and beverages. Beer and wine are acceptable, other types of alcohol are not. Bring your favorite lawn chair if you wish. Some chairs will be provided by the Refuge.

The highlight of the day's events will start at 7pm and will be a discussion about the new Roger Tory Peterson Refuge in Old Lyme, CT followed by a screening of "A Celebration of Birds with Roger Tory Peterson," a 1 hour DVD biography of Roger.

Details of the new Roger Tory Peterson National Wildlife Refuge in Old Lyme will be discussed by Rick Potvin, McKinney Refuge Manager, and Don Crockett of The Friends of Roger Tory Peterson, who will present current plans for the newly created Refuge. Don will take everyone on a virtual tour to show some of the features of the new refuge. The virtual tour features 360 degree panoramic images with embedded videos and photos. Questions will be taken during and after the presentations.

A Celebration of Birds with Roger Tory Peterson (1 hour DVD presentation) is a video biography that was shot and produced in the early 1990's and appeared on PBS's "Nature" throughout the first half of the 1990s. The biography follows Roger to a variety of North American destinations and features extensive interview footage of Roger.

Sorry for the late notice. We are trying to create an enjoyable and entertaining experience, and are planning other events later this week (including a fundraising campaign launch) as the auction draws near.
