I kayaked out to Faulkner's Island today for their annual open house (it's
farther than it looks, but it was a calm day and a pleasant paddle). Along
the way, I passed a spot referred to on the nautical map as half-acre rock,
which is only partially visible, even at low tide. On the rock, though
there was an out-of-season WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, as well as 7 American
Oystercatcher, 3 Laughing Gull, and 1 Semipalmated Plover. On Faulkner's
Island, all of the terns have left already, of course, but there was an
impressive flock of 60+ Laughing Gulls feeding in the shoals north of the
island.
