Lighthouse Point Park Migration Festival   September 23, 2012

Celebrating Birds, Butterflies & Dragonflies
Sunday, September 23, 2012
8:00 am to 3:00 pm
(No Rain Date)
A suggested donation of $5.00 per car is requested
to help fund next year’s event

Each autumn, tens of thousands of hawks, songbirds, butterflies, and dragonflies pass through Lighthouse Point Park, a recognized Important Bird Area, on their migrations southward.  Come celebrate this awesome spectacle Sunday September 23, 2012, 8am – 3pm.  There will be bird walks for all ages, a bird banding demonstration, a hawks-in-flight ID workshop, live raptor shows, lighthouse tours, butterfly tagging and more!!! This festival is made possible in part by an Important Bird Area Small Matching Grant from Audubon Connecticut.

9:00 am to 10:00 am              Hawk Flight I.D. Workshop

9:30 am to 10:45 am              Children’s Bird Walk led by Corrie  Folsom-O’keefe

9:30 am to 10:45 am              Bird Walk led by Mike Horn


9:30 am to 3:00 pm                Monarch Butterfly Tagging in the Butterfly Garden
11:15 am to 12:15                            Horizon Wings– Live Raptor Show

9:00 am to 11:30 am              Lighthouse Tours
1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

12:15 to 1:15pm                     Live Music provided by The Blue Trail Band

11am to 2:30 pm                    Ride the Historic Carousel


1:30 pm to 3:00 pm                         “Skyhunters in Flight” – Falconry Demo

This Migration event is funded by Audubon CT , The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and the Board of Park Commissioners

 Event partners include: the New Haven Parks, Recreation and Tree Dept., Friends of Lighthouse Pt. Park ,New Haven Bird Club, CT Butterfly Association, Audubon Connecticut, CT Ornithological Association , CT Audubon Society,  Northeast  Hawk watch and the Peabody Museum

Suggested donation:  $5/car. Proceeds go towards next year’s event!
