For all of you out there interested in conservation, I'd like to let you know about an upcoming lecture.
The Macaws of Bolivia
Bennett Hennessey, the Executive Director of Asociación Armonía, will give an exciting and visually stunning presentation on the macaws of Bolivia to The Parrot Club in East Hartford on 10/9/12. Bolivia has 12 species of macaws and is the best country in the world to see these large colorful birds.
Asociación Armonía is a Bolivian nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their natural habitats. Partnered with American Bird Conservancy, BirdLife International, and World Land Trust-US, AA has special programs protecting critical habitat for endangered birds, working on prevention of bird trafficking in Peru and Bolivia, and preserving and protecting threatened and endangered species, including the Tucuman Amazon, the Red-fronted Macaw, the critically endangered Blue-Throated Macaw, the Wattled and Southern Horned Curassows, and a number of other bird species. AA's conservation actions are based on scientific studies and the active involvement of local communities.
Bennett, a native of Canada, has lived in Bolivia since 1995 and has dedicated his life to bird conservation. He has published over 30 scientific and general articles about bird conservation, archived over 1300 bird sound recordings for Cornell's Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds, contributed to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and assisted in the rediscovery of three bird species formerly thought to be extinct. He has been Executive Director of Asociación Armonía since 2003 and currently works directly with 12 threatened species programs.
Come hear this fascinating talk by one of South America's leading conservationists as he takes us on a tour of some of the most beautiful birds of South America.
