There were 2 Canvasback ducks on Frash Pond in Straford this morning,
although not much else was present.

I am wondering about the effect of Storm Sandy upon birds such as the
Ipswich Sparrow this winter. The amount of beach grass on Long Beach West
in Stratford has been significantly reduced as a result of the storm. Seeds
of this beach grass are an important food source for Ipswich Sparrows. The
New Jersey and Long Island barrier beaches must have also lost much beach
grass. No doubt Ipswich Sparrows have lived with such events for thousands
of years, but the present conditions might have a short term
effect upon the population.
