[CT Birds] Hawk Displacement?

The resident pair of red-shouldered hawks, locals for many years (or the
male has been; females come and go), has disappeared for the moment,
following the settling down last month of a pair of rough-legged hawks in
nearby fields. The red-shouldered usually have taken a vacation somewhere
in December or January; I do not believe they migrate. The black hawks
seem non-threatening -- different feeding strategies-- but the
red-shouldered residents may have moved away for the time-being. Anyone
know any such history of these raptors? Rob Evans North Stonington
