1/3 Noon, Somers, Hutton Rd/9th District intersection, several hundred
Horned Lark with 20+ SNOW BUNTINGS feeding in the fields. Only a few
Canada Geese in the field with the farm pond but many more geese (probably
over a 1000) sleeping along both sides of the icy banks of the Ct River at
the Barnes Boat landing in Enfield this morn. Also, 8-10 Common Goldeneye,
15 Common Merganser, 1 scaup, and 1 Great Cormorant preening on a snag
amidst the geese. All 3 usual gull species, didn't see any rarities. 1
report of a Bald Eagle in the area. River still open but lots of floating
ice carrying more geese and gulls on the fast moving current.
