Visited Stonington on saturday- from Stonington Point, had nice close views of COMMON EIDER (4) and RAZORBILLS (2). Then on to Barn Island, which overall was pretty quiet but still hosts 2 Great Egrets and numerous Blue Herons, and a Harrier. Best of all, however, was a SHORT-EARED OWL, seen flying at a distance but with a scope and in very good light, alighting once. It was one of those all-too-rare moments when I said to Brendan "This would be the perfect place to see a short-eared owl" and within a minute, the bird appeared! It was in sight long enough for both of us to get good looks through the scope, before disappearing westward into the glare of the sun.
