2/14 Wallingford, Mackenzie Res. loop - At least 5 and maybe as many as 8 VESPER SPARROWS on Cooke Road along with 6 to 10 Savannah Sparrows. At least 4 Vespers were with the Savannahs feeding in the plowed roadside edge in front of the stunning display of McMansions. One Vesper was at the west end of the road. Hard to get an exact count on the large group of sparrows because there's just enough traffic and joggers to flush them before you're sure if you've lined them all up. Reservoir itself had a few hundred Canada Geese, Mallards and 3 Ring-necked Ducks. A few hundred more geese were farther out Whirlwind Hill Road. No Greater White-fronteds seen, but geese were moving around a lot.
Pistapaug Pond - frozen and snow covered. One COMMON RAVEN on the ice.
