Today I hiked a little over 15 miles in Nehantic State Forest, Pleasant
Valley Preserve, Jewett Preserve, and Mt. Archer Preserve. My feet are not
happy with me. Still pretty winter-like visually in the woods but a warm and
sweaty hike. Fauna highlights;

Wood Ducks (6)

Red-shouldered Hawk (2)

Barred Owl (1)

Red-bellied Woodpecker (12+)

Downy Woodpecker (10+)

Hairy Woodpecker (1)

Northern Flicker (7)

Pileated Woodpecker (2)

Eastern Phoebe (9)

Tree Swallow (10+)

White-breasted Nuthatch (6)

Brown Creeper (3)

Carolina Wren (1)

Golden-crowned Kinglet (3)

Eastern Bluebird (2)

Hermit Thrush (1)

Pine Warbler (3)

Palm Warbler (1)

Phoebes were everywhere today and I tallied at least 20 for the day.

Non avian;

American Copper (1)

Mourning Cloak (10)

Anglewing sp (1)

Spring Azure (1)

Cabbage White (2)

And caught my of season snake, a tiny Eastern Garter Snake that a decent
sized earthworm could easily take lunch money from!
