5/15 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center 10:30-1PM, low tide
rising, overcast.
At 10:30, the female osprey was on the nest and male osprey on his perch.
A few minutes later, he flew off, and had not returned by 1PM.
The female osprey was moving around quite a bit on the nest, examining her
eggs. First one is due to hatch within a few days.
On the grounds and marsh:
5 Purple martins in gourds condo, Tree swallows (although the pair in one
of the nest boxes it seems has been evicted by house sparrows),
Barn swallows, Carolina & house wrens singing, Song sparrows, Red winged
blackbirds, Goldfinches, cardinals, mourning doves, Common grackles &
starlings. 1 Common Tern flew by.
On the marsh at low tide were at least 1000+ "peeps"-mix of Least
sandpipers, semi palmated sandpipers, Black bellied plovers, 2 Dunlins,
Semipalmated Plovers, 1 mallard, 2 Great Egrets, 5 Snowy Egrets, about 24
DC Cormorants, 500+ Brant, and 1 Dowitcher (not sure if Long or short
billed).
