Great day for birding the access road to the castle. Had a major fallout of Hermit Thrushes.  Dozens were scrounging through the underbrush next to Merimere as well as the undergrowth along the road up to the dam.  Blackpolls, Black Throated Blues and Black Throated Greens comprise the bulk of the warblers the last two days.  Had a couple of Blue Headed Vireos as well as the much more common Red Eyed Vireos.  Only thing of interest was a male Baltimore Oriole stripping the underbark of a dead Hemlock into long strips and flying to a nest just off the access road.
