Just an update: as reported last week, we brought the concerns raised here about park management directly to DEEP. We have communicated w Cmr. Esty, Deputy Cmr. Whalen and with Parks Director Tom Tyler and are in the process of setting up a meeting right now that will include CAS, COA, Audubon and DEEP park and wildlife staff. On our agenda is setting up a public meeting AND an ongoing process for communicating w Parks about our concerns, suggestions and ideas about how to better manage for people AND wildlife.
Right now, the agency is very focused on the thousands of beach goers headed to the parks in the next few weeks during the heat wave and over the July 4th holiday, BUT your voices are being heard!
Keep making noise (respectfully, of course) and we will keep you posted from our end. With your help, maybe we can finally get this perennial problem addressed!
PS I would ask that folks NOT contact the Governor on this issue right now. The reason is that we are asking him to veto Senate Bill 190 - a bad ATV bill. The next week is the critical period for his decision and we need your help convincing him to veto the bill! More info to follow.
(2) Another way to get the word out is to contact or copy the CT Council on Environmental Quality with your concerns. I have already raised the parks issue with the Council and they are bringing it up at their meeting tomorrow. I will be there to provide additional information based on your input, but it would be very helpful for them to hear directly from you. The Council is charged with investigating citizen complaints. In the past, a single complaint has resulted in special report<http://www.ct.gov/ceq/cwp/view.asp?a=986&Q=248850#Special>. Karl Wagener is the Executive Director: karl.wagener at ct.gov<mailto:karl.wagener at ct.gov> The meeting is at DEEP HQ in Hartford If you want to attend and Citizen Complaints are the last item on the agenda: http://www.ct.gov/ceq/cwp/view.asp?a=984&Q=248836&ceqNav=|
Keep fighting and thank you!
