I birded the coast today from 0630-1300, in part with Bill Banks, Bruce
Finnan, and Greg Hanisek. In all a dozen species of shorebird, some obvious
migrants, others likely summering non-breeders, and of course a few
breeders. It can be difficult to separate the southbound migrants from
summering birds at this time of year, but some birds like the Least Sands
and dowitchers are certainly migrants. This is certainly the earliest in
the "fall migration" I've reached a dozen shorebird species in a single day
in CT. Highlights below:

West Haven, Sandy Pt with BB/BF/GH:
2 Brant
2 Gadwall
2 Long-tailed Duck
1 Common Loon
1 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron (SY bird)
1 Semipalmated Plover
3 Least Sandpiper

Madison, Hammonasset SP with BB/BF/GH:
2 Boat-tailed Grackle (nesting)

Old Lyme, Griswold Pt:
1 Little Blue Heron (adult)
2 Black-bellied Plover
1 Greater Yellowlegs (alternate adult)
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
4 Least Sandpiper
1 DUNLIN (alternate adult, too early for a true migrant)
6 Short-billed Dowitcher (including 3+ of the hendersoni subspecies)
