A young peregrine falcon perched on the radio antenna at the ARRL
headquarters. Hopefully another fledgling from the nearby quarry nest.
There was one perched on the same tower around the same time last year.
One (presumably the same one) was also circling overhead with a black
vulture (only the second for the "yard") on 6/30.
Also a kingbird, very rare for the yard. Chickadees and titmice have
returned to the feeders after their nesting absence. They have traded
places with the grackles that had been draining feeders since March but
have now all but vanished from the yard, taking their noisy fledglings with
them. A pair of red-winged blackbirds have been coming to the feeders for
the past couple of months, previously they were rare visitors mixed in the
grackle flocks in the spring.
